    Our history

Christie Parksafe. began business as an Electrical Engineering and Contracting company operating on the Mornington Peninsula area of Victoria, Australia.

In the early 1970’s they perceived the need for easy access to outdoor entertaining and conceived the idea of producing fixed electrical public cooking facilities in attractive environmental outdoor settings for public use. In 1974 they began selling these products to Municipal Councils throughout Australia; with the most prominent being the highly successful number along Alexandra Avenue on the bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne. In addition there are in excess of 500 units on Queensland’s Gold Coast and 500 units in Australia’s Capital, Canberra.

In 1987 the company developed and introduced a range of Gas barbecues to compliment their Electric range. These have proved very successful in areas such as National Parks and other locations where mains power is not available.

In 1994 the company identified safety and hygiene as major issues for public cooking facilities. Traditionally the benchtop of a brick public barbecue was finished with ceramic tiles with grouted joints. This surface being porous and difficult to clean is a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.

To combat this, the company developed and released a range of Stainless Steel Benchtop’s as an option for our Brick In range of products. These self supporting Benches not only provided a total hygienic, easy clean stainless cooking and work area, they also assisted with the construction of the brick surround as the legs could be used as a guide for the bricklayer.

Currently more than half of all Christie brick in barbecues are sold with a benchtop.

In 1996 the company rose to meet a significant challenge set down by the market. With the growing difficulty and cost of bringing several different tradespeople onsite to construct the traditional brick public barbecue, especially in regional areas, Christie Parksafe Pty. Ltd. developed and released a complete kit form public cooking system. Using high strength custom Aluminium extrusions, a range of 1, 2 or 3 module units that could be easily assembled onsite by either an Electrician or Gas Fitter meant public cooking facility installation was now significantly easier, cheaper and the units more attractive.

The Modular range comes complete with Stainless Steel Hotplates and Benchtops to give a hygienic, easy clean surface. The Modular range now makes up more than two thirds of all units sold.

With the introduction of this and other products and the recent boom in local Tourism, the Caravan and Tourist Park Industry has come to account for 20% of the company’s business.

In 2005 the company released one of the most important developments for electric park barbecues, a new High Efficiency electric hotplate design. The improvement the HE2005 hotplate made led to our electric hotplates using less energy whilst cooking quicker than all other commercial electric public barbecue hotplates. Independent tests showed it delivered an 18% increase in cooking performance whilst using 25% less energy than traditional technology hotplates. The HE2005 electric hotplate also uses less energy than other so called “low power” hotplates whilst offering superior cooking performance when cooking a hotplate full of food.

In 2006 the board of Christie Parksafe identified the need for a one-stop-shop where clients could obtain a complete range of the premium quality products for parks and streetscapes including :

    Christie Parksafe Barbecues,
    Alumistyle Shelters,
    Parkline Furniture.

A new decade heralds the release of a revolution in barbecue design and technology. Following 3 years of development, the CCQ Series takes park cooking to a new level. Incorporating all the previous features developed by Christie, the Christie Cooktop ‘Q’ Series adds precise electronic timing and control as well as cutting edge design.

Available across the Christie range, the CCQ is designed to lower the cost of installation and operation whilst offering users precise levels of control and information.

The core business of the company, that of design and manufacture of Parksafe Barbecues has provided the impetus for steady growth over the 4 decades. During this period the name Christie Parksafe has become synonymous to City, Town and Regional Councils and the Caravan and Camping Industry for the reliability and innovation of the products and services it provides.

Additionally, the company’s international marketing activities have opened up networks into Government Authorities and Recreation Industries in North America, Europe, the Middle East, New Zealand and South East Asia. The company’s reputation and its preparedness to comply and to co-operate with such authorities have generated new and innovative opportunities for the future.
